Is yoga your routine work? What is yoga according to you? One of the oldest physical disciplines in the world. Yoga is defined as a means of uniting the individual spirit with the universal spirit of God. It is the means to join or to unite, symbolising the union of body and consciousness. Recognizing its universal appeal, on 11th December 2014, the United Nations proclaimed 21st June as the international day of yoga by resolution 69/131. The day 21st June was suggested by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his UN address suggested the date of 21st June, as it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and it shares a special significance in many parts of the world. The international day of yoga aims to raise awareness world wide of the many benefits of practicing yoga. The idea of international day of yoga was first proposed by PM Narendra Modi in his speech at the United Nations General Assembly, on 27th September 2014,

It embodies unity of mind and body, thought and action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well being. Let us work towards adopting an international yoga day."

How yoga is also called?

The yoga sutras of Patanjali Maharishi define ‘asana’ as “a position that is steady and comfortable”. Patanjali mentions the ability to sit for extended periods as one of the eight limbs of his system. Asanas are also called yoga poses or yoga postures in English.
