what is Bonfire

It’s pretty cold in most parts of the country- making it the perfect time for bonfire parties, be it on the backyard or beach side or other suitable place you wish. Keeping in mind the rising levels of pollution and also to ensure you follow the right etiquette. Here are a few things to follow that will ensure a fun affair.

Pick a private spot:

You should select a right location, whether you are camping in a forest, beach side, or a quiet spot in the city you live in. A less habited area is the best bet as you should not be disturbing people staying the vicinity.

Inform your neighbours:

Your neighbours should be aware that there is a bonfire party around, especially, if they are pet-owners so that they can take adequate safety measures for their furry friends. Also, be careful not to position the bonfire upwind of the neighbours’ houses-it will prevent any fire accident.

Safety is priority:

You should take safety measures while preparing for bonfire camping. If you plan to indulge in fireworks, make sure you keep them in a closed box until it begins. Go for eco-friendly fireworks and choose ones that are not noisy. The idea is to have some fun and sparkle, not create noise. Do ensure there’s a safe buffer zone between fireworks and guests.

Dress for the occasion:

Choose a perfect dress that suits for bonfire camping and also ensures safety. This is not the time to take out your heels and fancy footwear. Instead, opt for comfortable shoes: beach friendly shoes or sandals for a beach bonfire and sturdy and flat footwear for backyard bonfire. Also, wear casual clothes with some accessories. For an evening bonfire in a cold climate, a thick sweater and a shawl is a must.

Keep it clean:

While bonfire parties are all about revelry, music and dance, eating and enjoying, special care should be taken not to litter the area, if you are in a beach or forest area, carry with you some garbage bags so that trash can be taken care of and disposed of after the party is over.

Ensure a safe fire for your party:

Choose dry materials as they burn quickly and produce little smoke. Do check the wind to make sure it is light and not blowing towards a road, a thatch or a neighbour’s property. Keep the bonfire small, adding materials often rather than all at once. Don’t keep the fire on for a very long time. Turn off the fire immediately after the party is over. Make a happy bonfire party.
